The year-on-year growth of exports slowed slightly in March and the year-on-year growth of imports turned negative
According to China Customs, the total value of China's trade in goods in the first quarter of this year was 9.42 trillion yuan, up 10.7% year on year. Of this, exports reached 5.23 trillion yuan, up 13.4%; Imports were 4.19 trillion yuan, up 7.5%. The total value of foreign trade in March was 3206.5 billion yuan, up 5.8% year on year and 24.4% month on month. Among them, exports reached 1,753.54 billion yuan, up 12.9% year-on-year and 26.6% quarter-on-quarter; Imports reached 1.452.96 trillion yuan, down 1.7% year-on-year and up 21.9% month-on-month.
In March, the epidemic rebounded in China, mainly affecting the eastern coastal provinces. The epidemic and containment measures disrupted export-related economic activities, and the year-on-year growth rate of exports slowed slightly. Imports fell 1.7 percent year-on-year, the first decline since December 2020. In addition, the structural resilience of exports continues to be tested. In March, the MANUFACTURING PMI in emerging markets fell below the expansion line, while the manufacturing PMI in developed markets remained expansionary.
